Have you seen all the new features in the latest version of the PicoScope 7 Automotive beta?
If not, check it out here.

In other news, Ben Martins is sharing the second part of his latest case study where he diagnoses a problem on a Manitou telehandler. ScannerDanner has made a video of himself unboxing his new 4425A scope and Barney has released another batch of new and updated Guided tests. The Maths is cool series continues and Ben is showing us all about Alarms and autosave in PicoScope Automotive. We are celebrating 10 000 subscribers on YouTube, and our best of the web section has two new videos for you to enjoy. We also have an article about what you can do to prepare for the end of the lockdown.

New features in PicoScope 7 Automotive Beta

We are continually developing and improving PicoScope 7 Automotive and would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Pico users out there that have used it so far and helped us make it even better with valuable feedback.

We are pleased to announce another new beta release with several new features worth mentioning:
  • PicoScope 7 Settings to become independent of PicoScope 6 so as to streamline future development
  • ConnectDetect status now displayed in the resized viewport
  • Math channel wizard now includes SI Units option
  • Auto Arrange Axes introduced to provide one-click scaling and alphabetical positioning of all active channels
  • Graph tooltip available in the graph view to reveal voltage and time relative to mouse/cursor position
  • A number of user interface improvements to assist with viewing and ease of use
If you want to check out the new features or start using PicoScope 7 Automotive for the first time, you can download the latest version of the software on our downloads page.

Steve Smith has written a forum post explaining more about these new features. You can see his full forum post by clicking the Read more button below.

A telehandler with a slow winch - part 2

We’re continuing to follow Ben's work on the faulty Manitou telehandler. Last time around, we established that the problem did not lie in the teleservice or the winch itself. There had to be a flow issue, but where?

Maths is cool - Part 15
By Steve Smith

Following on from our video about the PicoBNC+ resistance lead for the 4425A scope, a question was raised regarding the possibility of measuring resistance with the 4425 Scope.

This is most certainly possible. We have to know the circuit we are measuring, capture the voltage and current flow (under load) and use Ohm's Law to calculate the resistance.

Alarms and Autosave

A quick demonstration showing how to use alarms to create a quick save function when carrying out multiple captures of the same signal. These features are currently available in PicoScope 6 Automotive only, but they are on the list of features that we are working on including in PicoScope 7 Automotive.

Testing times - preparing for the end of the lockdown

The recent coronavirus-related lockdown has not only dramatically affected our lives and car use but also our cars. The RAC (a British automotive services company) reported that during the lockdown, one in ten cars in the UK sat completely unused, and millions of others were used far less than normal. For us in the automotive industry, this means we could be seeing many more related faults than usual in the coming weeks and months, such as flat batteries, seized brakes, deformed tyres, etc.

Here are some tips on how to prepare and simplify the diagnostic process for cases like these.
