Case Study: 2013 Audi A6 3.0 TDI Avant Quattro S-Line

By Steve Smith, Automotive Applications Specialist

The customer reported his Audi A6 would show the following messages within the instrument panel of the vehicle:
  • Parking Brake Malfunction
  • Start/Stop system deactivated
Further questioning of the customer revealed the electronic parking brake (EPB) occasionally failed to release after standing overnight with the EPB applied. When the fault occurs, the vehicle can be driven without any brake binding or drag, suggesting the parking brake has released. The symptom had been very intermittent for over 12 months regardless of temperature or driving conditions. Additional feedback from the customer added, if the ignition was turned off and back on, the error messages cleared and the parking brake performed normally. However, occasionally the ignition was required to be turned off for over 20 minutes before the parking brake function was restored.

Fuso NZ's Top Technician

Fuso NZ’s inaugural technical skills competition saw 48 of its best technicians from across the country step forward to put their expertise to the test – vying to be named the first-ever winner with the grand prize of an all-expenses paid trip to Japan.

The honour of being named the first-ever Fuso NZ technical skills competition winner fell to Allen Whitaker of Prestige Commercial Vehicles Invercargill.

The competition, strongly supported by ASL (SP Tools) and Metermaster (PicoScope), involved three assessments throughout the year to evaluate problem-solving and fact-finding abilities, with points awarded for each individual’s methodology and end result.

Winner Allen Whitaker will enjoy an all-expenses paid trip to Japan, including a trip to the Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation head office in Shin-Kawasaki and an opportunity to visit the company’s famous testing facility based at Kitsuregawa.

Joseph Rogers (pictured) of Keith Andrews Trucks Hamilton and Mike Pilbrow of Keith Andrews Trucks Whangarei came second and third respectively.
