Automotive Newsletter

January 2020

This edition…
…another year has come and gone and we are thrilled about the company's continued success. Looking back on 2019, we had new offices open and awards won. The new year started with our new building being on the news. We have a guest case study where Lee Sharp talks us through his diagnosis of a fuel pressure fault on a Volvo truck. The article series Maths is cool continues. Steve Smith has written an article about ConnectDetect® and Phil Rutt has shared a list of his favorite Pico accessories. We are resharing some CAN testing information and the "Best of the web" section has a CAN video and the next part of DrivelineMaster's Pico lessons. Over the next few weeks and months we'll also be attending some events.

Like what you see? Why not forward it to a friend?
Pico HQ in the news!

Local news station ITV Anglia heard about the seaside-themed decor in our new building and paid us a visit. Watch their report and find out how we've created meeting rooms and a kitchen out of beach huts, a boat and a replica of a harborside pub!

It's not just for our entertainment, though. The new building will also give us more space to prepare your orders for dispatch and send an ever-increasing number of packages more efficiently.

Fuel Pressure Fault
By Lee Sharp

I know there are a few of you out there that are interested in using the PicoScope on trucks so I thought I'd share my process in this case study. I have done a few of these now and Pico has definitely improved the accuracy and speed of the diagnosis.

ConnectDetect® in PicoScope 6 Automotive

Steve Smith has taken the time to write an in-depth article about the ConnectDetect feature in PicoScope 6 Automotive and investigating whether it is possible to use ConnectDetect to determine the cause of specific sensor faults.

a+b=? Maths is cool

By Phil Rutt

Phil has made a Top 5 list of his favorite Pico accessories. He explains why he likes them so much and what you can use them for. Is there an accessory on this list that you don't have yet?

Blast from the past

CAN we solve it?  Yes, we CAN!
Here are a previously published case study as well as one of our most popular videos on our YouTube channel.  They both revolve around CAN testing so we thought it would be good to share them again as this is an ever-popular topic.

Mazda 3 | Communications fault

Ben Martins was presented with a 2015 Mazda 3 with all warning lights on the dash illuminated, accompanied with around 40 DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes).

Decoding a CAN bus signal

In this video Phil Rutt of Pico Technology gives a demonstration on decoding a vehicle's CAN bus signal, using our 16-pin breakout box (AKA CAN Test box) TA069 and PicoScope. Phil describes the PicoScope settings used, and the process followed in order to view the packets of data supplied along the CAN bus line.

Decoding CAN Bus Data Using the PicoScope

Using the PicoScope (automotive software), you can decode the data on most automotive data networks. This video specifically covers the data on high-speed CAN networks.

Pico Lesson 4

DrivelineMaster's Pico Lesson 4 in a series of training videos on using PicoScope Automotive software. You will learn about different probes and the associated scales.
