Case Study: Hyundai Porter 2

Many diesel vehicles manufactured after the year 2000 are equipped with a common rail diesel system. Using the wrong fuel, mistaken maintenance, and engine overheating can force a diesel car into a garage for investigation and repair. This Hyundai Porter 2 had a cold start problem, where the engine ran poorly and white smoke was apparent. The previous engineer had changed injectors and the actual engine head, but the problem still occurred…

See how the use of a PicoScope and PicoDiagnostics detected and identified the fault where the scan tool could not.

Best of the Web

Here we have another video case study on YouTube with Paul Danner (aka ScannerDanner). In this video Paul investigates a 2003 Ford Expedition 5.4 V8 vehicle. The vehicle has a coil over plug system, and has a misfire and P0356 trouble code. The depth of explanation combined with the use of Paul’s Smartboard enable easy viewing of his videos, so don’t miss out!

Motor Age magazine will be hosting a live webcast on testing engine mechanical health. They’ll be using a PicoScope, WPS500 transducer and a FirstLook tailpipe sensor. The training is offered free, but you need to register. It takes place on May 31st at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (June 1st at 1 a.m. GMT) and is live on the car. This allows the audience to ask questions and participate during the webcast. As with all of the Motor Age webcasts, the recorded session will be uploaded for viewing at a later date.

Our very own collection of informative videos can be found in our automotive library.

Mechanex Competition Winner

During the Mechanex show in Manchester we asked visitors to spare a few minutes and complete a short survey based on oscilloscope training. The winner was chosen at random earlier this week, and congratulations go out to Chris Bee from Soltcoat Motors of Poulton-le-Fylde! A PicoScope 4223 will be on its way to you soon!
