Jaguar E-type 3.8 Case study

This month we have a case Study from Steve Smith (pictured left). If you attended the Mechanex show at Sandown in November the chances are you may have met and spoken with Steve. Steve is a recent addition to the Pico workforce having joined us in September of this year from Toyota, where he had been named the 'Toyota Champion Technican' of the year. Add to this being crowned the UK's Top Technician of the Year 2013 too (after being a finalist in both 2010 and 2011) you can see that Pico now has its very own Master Tech. "Amongst all the hi-tech, ultra-fast, multi-computing vehicles of everyday life comes a real gem from yester year that still requires a solid basic understanding of ignition systems and a PicoScope to confirm the ignition cycle in real-time. The vehicle in question was a 3.8 E-type straight 6 cylinder that I have to say was a stunning example of this model and privilege to work with. Our customer's concern was unstable idle speed, reluctance to rev, and horrendous backfiring with hesitation at wide open throttle (WOT [the default position for E-type drivers])..."

Mechanex Exhibition and Competition Update

Training courses

This two-day officialPico Technology course introduces the basic working principles of engine management systems, component testing and system diagnostics using oscilloscopes. The course is split between class-based theory sessions, and practical demonstrations in a workshop using the PicoScope Automotive Diagnostics Kit.
