The attached trace is from a Toyota 3-Cyl 998cc engine. This engine employs a COP system with one coil per cylinder. This engine is featured on the European Toyota AYGO, Citreon C1 and Peugeot 107 cars(joint venture).
Voltage and signal amplitudes vary across coil systems. The signal transmission pattern also varies. Experimentation is essential if you want to obtain an accurate voltage measurement. The tool really comes into its own when rapid inspection of coils is required. A V8 COP system can be checked in the space of a couple of minutes with all 8 cylinders.
We have used the kV ranges with success but again, different coil systems require tuning of the ranges. To do this, you will need to know the burn and peak voltages. Probe positioning can then be altered to meet the peak viewing angle. Once you have "tuned" your settings, you can repeat this over and over for accurate, reliable and repeatable results.
Using the probe on injectors and alternators is possible, although we have recongised the probe in the main as a COP probe. Any users who have used the probe for other automotive devices are welcome to share their results with this community.

interesting tool? i know from experimenting that using your ordinary pin probe or pieces of tin foil will also get mixed results from around the base or on top of a ignition coil, but gave up trying after jaguar XJ6 couln't find any patterns at all, Subaru turbo - worst car to access anything, especially coils - can't get good patterns while probing across same angle on all cylinders due to lack of access might go back to fitting ht leads between COP and spark plug
