USB Power Hub

Post by brucestafo »

Hello, is it safe to use a USB power hub with the Off-Highway 4425A-099 Scope Module?

I am having problems powering up the current clamps from the usb 3.2 ports on my 2021 HP laptop with Windows11 Home version.

The TA388 and the TA473 would work for about 10 seconds before I get an error message and the PicoScope 7 program will stop.

Hi brucestafo,
I had similar problem when I have used non Pico USB cable which is important to use. the ordinary USB cables are having huge voltage drop so the scope is not able to get full power supply.
Then I had one laptop which was basically not capable to provide enough current, that caused the same symptoms.
In both scenarios I have solved it with USB hub with external power supply, that is what you are asking I believe. So it works normally for me and I cannot see any problems with that set up that includes the USB hub with power supply.
I hope it helps you.
Regards,
Roman

Well thanks to Autonerdz and Pico I don't have to buy a power hub. The laptop settings for the USB power management had to be adjusted in the Device Manager section.
The current clamps are working now.

Save Power.png
In Device Manager this box was ticked. I unchecked this box for all USB ports.

Hi brucestafo,
Thank you for the update, I will personally benefit from your info, going to test on my other laptop with low UPB current output.

Roman
