Re: Who's online and Who said what?

I love the use of the controller's voltage characteristics almost as a "Fingerprint" on the CAN bus. While it's quite interesting as a tactic for reverse engineering CAN busses, we utilize it for diagnostics as well. We have had instances where CAN transceivers decide to transmit an error frame for ...

Re: long time base only saving 1 waveform

Hey Wight, The newest Automotive PicoScopes (like the 4425A) saves up-to 250 million samples in the buffer memory. Your current recording is set to sample 2.5 million times per second, for 100 seconds (10s/div). That equals 250 million samples. This is why it's only saving one buffer. You've reached...

Re: Smart Sensors

An example of where the scan tool isn't always clear to a technician is when Gateway ECU's are used. Absolutely! That is a great use of a PicoScope for CAN decoding! In the trucking industry we're seeing more and more gateway modules as the industry continues to focus on reliability (isolating crit...

Re: Smart Sensors

This may be a bit late but here is my $0.02. The most common failure mode on these "smart sensors" are in-range failures. It's not very common that the CAN circuits fail, it's typically the measuring circuits. As was stated earlier, the only thing we can really measure on these is CAN - which doesn'...
