Re: Ford ignition primary waveform

Hi Hepcat Those waveform don't look too bad, particularly if you add a bit of filtering. Quite often it take a snap of the throttle for ignition to breakdown. Scanner Danner does some great videos on analysing Primary and Secondary Ignition on you tube. https://www.scannerdanner.com/78-secondary-ign...

Re: Test Plan for Smart Charging System on Ford Fiesta 1.4 (SPJC)

What is pulling 120 amps? That'll be the heated screens x 2, the lights (all) and running about 1500 rpm. Does that add up to 120 amps ..... ? From the capture I dont see channel labels so I will guess that you have 93 amps drawn from the alternator of which some 25 amps are being used to charge th...

Re: Learning the First look waves

Indeed Sidera. Theory and Real Life don't always agree. I do own a First Look and the results from it are not always easy to analyse when you are new to it. There, PDF's & Videos will never be as good as actual hands on learning. My first experience with the First Look made me wonder if it had a pla...

Re: Test Plan for Smart Charging System on Ford Fiesta 1.4 (SPJC)

Technician Must say that there is a lot of unnecessary copy & paste in your post. what ever makes you happy but it does make it tedious and difficult to read. Some may not bother. Less is more sometimes ! Back to the Fiesta and some facts. What on that little car is pulling 120 Amps Constantly ? Wha...

Re: Alpine iLX-107 head unit draining my car battery in only a few days

After the new head unit, I have a random battery drain issue where a fully charged and new battery will be dead, below 10 volts in less than 3 days. Sometimes it takes two weeks, and I cannot figure out why or what is causing this. I did a battery drain test with my multi meter for over one hour, F...

Re: Trying to make sense of a compression test done on a 355

What is reality? I am guessing you have a Ferrari 355 there. First it would be get some background, what is the fault symptom and any fault codes or data of interest. Can you do another compression test using the "Automotive Software" not "Pico Diagnostics" using an amp clamp on Channel A & Ignitio...

Re: Audi A4 2.0 TDI Rough idle

Hi Fenwick This is a long thread now and is dealing with many different cars. They may have the same fault but we have no guarantees there. Let us try and stick to your Van alone when Idling the specified was about 30 and actual was jumping around all over the place, and when driving the numbers wer...

Re: Test Plan for Smart Charging System on Ford Fiesta 1.4 (SPJC)

no fault codes on the electrical systems anywhere. The alternator is not the cause, we have bench tested this unit and can gain up to 15 v from it. What Scanner are you using, they are not equal as you know. Bench testing the alternator is great but not ideal as the Purists will argue and with good...
