Re: What else could it be?

Great write up Steve. In North America the 2003 to 2007 Ford 6.0L diesel is notorious for setting a P0299 code for any low power concern. This can be turbocharger related, boost or exhaust leaks, engine misfire, or even low injector voltage. I was surprised at the beginning of the post to see that a...

Re: Diesel engines with HPFS's

Bosch CP3 pumps do have measurable pulses and are phased in certain applications. Earlier fuel systems did not have phasing and tended to be more simplistic. Newer systems with higher emissions standards require more precise fuel delivery control. Whether you are injecting on the peak of the pressur...

Re: Diesel engines with HPFS's

Depending on the year and application some common rail pumps are phased to the engine roughly. Not quite the same a timing an older injection pump but similar. The purpose of this is to align the pulses out of the pump with injector actuation. For example, a Bosch CP3 pump on a 6.7L Cummins engine r...

Re: One waveform One picture

After a decade of using a Picoscope at work, I find that I have fallen into a bit of a trap. On late model vehicles, scan data and the PCM's ability to identify a fault has greatly improved. I have realized that I am relying on my scan tool more and not pushing myself to scope newer vehicles. This i...

That's awesome Ben!

I have never had the chance to test a C7 or C9 Cat but even though these engines are quite old in regards to on highway vehicles, they are in a lot of equipment still running today.

Re: CAT C7 ACERT HEUI Engine

I feel that you are on the right track with the fuel supply. It might be worth checking for a restriction before the supply pump as well.

Bosch CP3 Test

The last half of this video gets into scoping a CP3 pump for a low power issue in a Duramax but is universal to most common rail systems.

Re: Navistar VT365/VT275 and Ford 6.0L Injector

I haven't played around much with the CAT HEUI systems besides one 3126E. On that engine the supply was was a constant voltage. I imagine the low side was in charge of the current limiting but I didn't get the chance to capture it. The Navistar G2.8 injectors share a supply between four injectors bu...

Navistar VT365/VT275 and Ford 6.0L Injector

The G2.8 injector in these engines are a Hydraulic Electronic Unit Injector (HEUI) and are susceptible to poor engine oil causing injector damage, resulting in a misfire. The damage is usually scoring of the spool valve that sits between an open and close coil controlled by an Injection Control Modu...

Re: Monitoring coolant pressure with a sensor

Generally, these engine doesn't develop a misfire on one cylinder due to a head gasket issue. I was just posting one with an over pressurizing system. Now with an EGR cooler things get a bit tricky. Here is a post of one that is venting but the cause is an oil cooler restricting coolant flow to the ...
