Earlier this week I found myself conducting an In Cylinder Pressure Analysis on a 4 Cylinder Engine with a view to confirm or deny Valve Train Issues. This was achieved and a PS Data file saved for each cylinder.
For Post capture analysis it was necessary to pull up 4 files one at a time. Not a major issue as we did come to an plausible diagnosis (subject to confirmation after dismantling) and a direction towards a repair.
It then occurred to me that it would be useful to put 50 seconds across the screen (5s/div) and allocating 10 / 12 seconds to each cylinder, pressing "PAUSE" in between cylinders. Then gain the benefit of viewing all 4 cylinders on one screen within One Capture.
Better still a button with a drop down menu. Trigger - then Pause after xx, yy or zz Seconds.
Is that something that Pico would consider ?
I am aware that the "Reference Waveform" function goes some way towards solving this issue.
Better still would be having a maximum 4 Pressure transducers (limited by 4 Channels on the Scope) - The best if money was no object.
With the "PAUSE" facility we could put 8/ 10/ 12 / 16 cylinders across one screen, the limitation would only be the "Zoom" capability of PICO - We can have a Laugh - it is Friday
I for one would be grateful should the team consider, perhaps implement this request.
Hello,
Also you can add in EDIT a function like "copy current frame from buffer",not only as image bus as a .psdata?
I can't add in waveform library browser my files because of size(I use for accurete capture 1MS-5 MS ).For a non-starting /bad starting engine I use a capture for 20-30 seconds ...in the waveform library browser I can't find a reference then I find a fuel supply issue but my capture can't be shared.
Thank you

Hi Victor
You can achieve this at the moment by first saving the .psdata file as usual, to ensure you don't loose any frames, then from the file menu, use "save as", and use 1 of the 2 options to either save the current buffer (ie what's on screen - not any zoom, then entire buffer) or a range of buffers, not necessarily sequential ones, so a good frame and bad frame (or ranges of frames) ... the later is what we do, when we have hundreds of frames, but for our library/templates only need to show 1 frame for good/bad to remind the operator of what they can expect to see ... often 4-5 years later!

I hope that helps get those big files reduced and upload-able to the Library!

A Pause would be useful, I can think of many times I'd like to manually pause things, or indeed "add" extra frames/buffers to a file ... so get's my thumbs up
It would be good to be able to load buffers from the same file or 2nd psdata file into 1 view to see precise overlays ... Pico software based on 8 channel scopes being sold and limitless maths channels, that there should be no issue of feasibility ... just coding it
But the pause and effectively allowing things like sparks (secondary ignition using the wand) to be stacked on 1 screen, would be extremely useful.
Yes Indeed. That would be excellent not only for the Diagnosis Procedure but also for the "Before & After" Incidentally that would (in my humble opinion) be a good Marketing tool for Pico.

There are some great feature requests here and I will load them into the New Feature Request list with a link to these posts.
Rest assured all new feature requests from everyone including VM's, OEM's, Aftermarket, and Forum users etc. are added for the engineers attention
I like the pause suggestion for multiple compression measurements within one buffer.
My concern here would be the loss of the overlay feature for each cylinder as they would reside in one buffer.
I can see that the zoom would help here by "Window Zooming" around each cylinder whilst measuring the 4 stroke events but an overlay of all cylinders would make life easier to spot anomalies.
Overlaying multiple cylinders I know at present can be challenging due to the variation in cylinder speeds during the 4 stroke cycle (especially when measuring the offending cylinder)
This issue is being tackled by the engineers here at Pico but once again I have said too much already.
What I can say is the feature has the potential to simplify 4 stroke analysis from multiple cylinders regardless of their performance
I also like the feature to be able to load additional buffers or a second psdata file into a single view.
Once again this would simply post analysis or make for ideal "before and after" proofs for studies, warranty and customers alike

Hi Steve
Hope all is well?
This would be a great feature, a couple of things to iron out
1. loading them as additional "channels" would be great
2. Allowing timebase to be snapped to a common "trigger" (for when trigger is always say a fixed point (cam/crank))
3. Allow movement of timebase (time shift!) for when this was not used, to align things precisely, or rather than time align them, shift them on top of each other ...
4. A quick way to reset all selected channels to matching settings (zoom, filtering, scale, offset etc) ?
5. In an ideal world where there was no Pico "blackhole" between frames ... being able to shift the frame being viewed (ie within a continuous capture (not repeat trigger) shift the view to get your events onto 1 frame/screen (even zoom outwards on the timebase to allow this if desired!!)
It was going to be my 2p worth, but lets call it 5p between friends!
