Top 5 Pico Accessories
by Phil Rutt

Life is never simple and on today’s modern vehicles testing can be challenging. Pico’s range of accessories can make your job quicker and easier.

My absolute favourite accessory has to be the Coil-on-Plug probe, due to its many uses.

This probe was traditionally used for coil-on-plug testing but further experience has shown that the COP probe can be applied to any switching load, such as:

  • Solenoids
  • Fluid control valves
  • Injectors
  • Actuators
  • Motors

Number 2 on the list has got to be the fuse extension leads. These are greatly under-utilized and are great when you need to make a connection to systems that are accessible via a fuse box. From here, all you need to capture the waveform is a simple current clamp. Our latest fuse extension leads even have voltage output connectors included.

They are so simple to use. All you have to do is to position the fuse from the fuse box into the correct fuse type extension and refer to vehicle information system like the following, position the current clamp around the fuse extension lead and start your capture.

Number 3 on the list are the good old-fashioned back-pinning probes. These probes are designed for back-probing under the insulation of multi-plug terminals. Depending on the type of back-pinning probe, they come with either a replaceable pin or a flexible spring type for right-angle connections.

Number 4 on the list are the breakout leads. Pico has a selection of different breakout leads, either with a specialist connector or in kits of six. The leads in the kits fit multiple connectors and are supplied to vehicle manufacturers as an approved way to test vehicles.

Number 5 on the list is the Low-pressure Fuel Sight Block kit to use with the WPS500X. This is another tool that was created by R&D into fuel system testing. I am sure we have all experienced problems with fuel systems where vehicles have problems with poor starting or running. This is the perfect tool for testing the pressure and looking for air pockets in petrol and diesel systems (from leaking fuel filters and fuel hoses).

The kit contains:

  • 6 brass adaptors
  • 1 connector hose
  • 1 shut-off pipe for putting the system under load

This is just my favourite five accessories. There are many more accessories available on https://www.picoauto.com/products.
