Forum search is practically useless

Why are the search filters set to ignore common and anything less than 3 characters with no option for "" phrase.
So for example try and search for LS CAN - nope, low speed network - only network is searched for.

Searched query: low speed network
ignored: speed low

Searched query: medium speed network
ignored: speed

However oddly
Searched query: bms waveform
ignored: waveform

But... CAN waveform
The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: waveform can.

aaargh!!

In an industry riddled with TLAs (three letter acronyms!) and with the tiny forum data set this makes no sense.

I have to agree that searching on the forum can be challenging based on what you describe above

We are taking steps to improve the search function and it would good to have your feedback when these have been actioned

Our current search options do include an advanced search feature which may help

Referring to the images and numbered points below:

1: Will search for the entire forum
2: Will search the results returned from your forum search
3: Will take you to your chosen topic
4: Will enable you to search your chosen topic
5: Will provide you with advanced search options (refer to image 3)

Rest assured, the above can be improved upon and we will work towards a solution

Another option maybe to use the power of Google with something like picoauto.com/support "CAN Fault" as a search criteria to find CAN fault topics which will pick up forum articles and associated Pico Auto topics

An update to Steve's post

We have now changed settings and re indexed the site so that FD is picked up correctly which works well, and CAN is permitted although it it can pick up plenty of false matches.

In the main search if you use the + you can force combination of word searching. So for example

+can +serial +bus +decoding

or a combination helps limit the search if you are looking for common language words which are also TLA's of interest such as CAN
