Hi Steve

In the Training Section (Training Videos) of the superb new PicoScope app for mobile devices, under “PicoScope Software - videos coming soon!”, is it the plan to centralise there all those excellent PicoScope 7 tutorial videos (most, if not all, of which are your work), such as those found throughout this topic and in the newsletters?

I hope only official Pico Automotive videos, made by Pico technicians, will feature in this app, although an exception could be made only for ScannerDanner’s 2 videos: PicoScope Basics Part 1 and Part 2, which, even though they features PS6, are so good that they could still grace the app without detriment. Certainly, anyone wanting to get to grips with sampling rates would be hard pressed to find a better tutorial than PicoScope Basics Part 2 on YouTube.

Brand new app and PS7 going live…. Christmas has come early this year.

Best wishes

Martin

Hello Martin and thank you for the feedback on the App which I have passed onto the team here at Pico

The PS7 software video is complete and scheduled to be added to the “PicoScope Software” section very soon

This will not contain the videos created to support the forum posts above, but instead, a more concise overview of PS7 focusing on ease of use

The App videos are designed to be “bite size” and not too in-depth but of course there is a place for everything and perhaps having a section of smaller dedicated videos relating to specific areas of the software would be helpful too.

I will pass this onto the App team and we will discuss for sure in our next team meeting

Thank you also for the information regarding ScannerDanners videos too.

It is very easy to focus on “what’s now” and “what’s new” whilst forgetting about valid tutorials on YouTube that are as relevant today as the day they were made

One thing we are not short of is “choice” when it comes to training material and study (we are very lucky indeed)

As mentioned here topic15231.html the challenge comes from knowing how to file and recall the information when required

Not sure how we ever managed before the internet?

Take care…..Steve

Many thanks for, as always, your kind reply.

As to “ Not sure how we ever managed before the internet?”, as usual, you are so right; it’s a thought that still hits me between the eyes and takes me back to the days when it would cost at least half a day to go to Manchester Central Library just to find a single piece of information. Now, the cost in time is determined merely by how fast I can type the question.

Best wishes

Martin

Chatting with Barney, he remined me of the awesome "A to Z of PicoScope" work available here https://www.picoauto.com/library/picoscope-in-depth which includes animated GIFs and additional links to further information too

Re: PicoScope 7 Automotive Software

Post by ben.martins »

Just to follow up on Steve's amazing work with keeping everyone up to date with the releases of PicoScope 7 Automotive, there is a brief update for the improvement to the J1939 decoder which can be seen here - viewtopic.php?p=102564#p102564.

There is also a subtle change also to the standard CAN decoder where in the ID section, the space has been removed between bytes. All other fields remain the same.

Thanks again everyone for your support and trust all are keeping safe and well.

Kind regards

Ben

PS7 Auto Early Access 7.0.88.9893 will be scheduled for release week commencing 20th December 2021

New features

Beta Logic triggering

Logic triggering will allow you to specify the conditions required for any combination of active channels in order to fire a trigger

• Click on the trigger lozenge to open the trigger dialog box
• Select desired trigger mode (we have opted for “Repeat”) followed by “Change Type”
• Note: you can now select a beta Logic trigger
• With the Logic trigger option selected, additional Logic trigger controls are displayed
• Select the “Logic Type” to be applied to the trigger conditions, below we have chosen “AND
• Choose the desired channel to which the trigger conditions are to be applied using the “Source” button
• Use the “Add” or “Remove” buttons to select the desired combination of active channels to be incorporated into the chosen “AND” logic
• Decide upon the “Threshold mode” that best suits your desired capture, below we have opted for “Window” mode
• Enter the Threshold 1 & 2 values (if applicable) to be applied to your trigger conditions along with any “Hysteresis” setting relevant to the signal under test
• Finally choose a trigger direction, below we have opted for “Inside” our chosen threshold values
Image 1
Image 1
Above we can see that the trigger settings applied to Channel A (“Source” A) have not been met as channel A does not enter inside “Threshold 1 & 2”

Note, even though channel B does meet the trigger threshold criteria, the Logic Type conditions specify that both channels A “AND” B are required to enter inside the threshold values

Below, the trigger conditions have now been met given both channels A “AND” B enter inside the threshold values
Image 2
Image 2
Below we have changed the Logic Type to “OR” where the trigger conditions will be met when either channels A "OR" B fall inside the specified threshold values
Image 3
Image 3
Below, the trigger conditions have now been met given channel B has entered inside the threshold values
Image 4
Image 4
A description of the selectable Logic Types can be found below:

AND........All of the input trigger conditions must be met
NAND.....None of the input trigger conditions must be met
OR.........One or more of the input trigger conditions must be met
NOR.......None of the input trigger conditions must be met
XOR........An odd number of input trigger conditions must be met
XNOR.....An even number of the input trigger conditions must be met

Feedback on the design and function of the beta Logic Trigger features would be most welcome
Click on More > Send Feedback within the software

Bug fixes

The focus for version 7.0.88.9893 has been to resolve a number of outstanding bugs across numerous operating systems:

• Improve appearance of Trigger lozenge detail when using Logic Trigger
• Improved handling of RWL authentication and uploading
• Resolve logic trigger limitations with PicoScope 4823
• Improve stability of PS7 when using AWG and amending settings via calculator (Mac)
• Resolve display of window trigger threshold values containing decimal points
• Improve stability of PS7 when editing the number of AWG samples and exporting the file
• Resolve AWG “free draw” tool drawing error
• Improve transition between AWG “free drawing” and zooming
• Resolve sizing issue of AWG zoom overview “Area select & Pan buttons
• Resolve AWG viewport location issue when importing a file

I hope this helps, take care…..Steve
