A friend has the above car with the engine management light on , it runs fine I scanned it with a Thinktool euromax but it doesn’t see the ecu , I am new to Pico diagnostics and have the 4425 and could do with some basic advice.
I am assuming the ecu is communicating with everything else otherwise it wouldn’t run
There is a single wire coming from the ecu to the dlc on pin 7 then 2 from the diagnostics module onto pins 9 and 14, can anyone point me in the right direction please.

Hi, a simple and quick check is if there is oil inside the control unit. remove the connector that goes to the engine and check if there is oil there. if there is, it's almost certainly coming from the vvt units' solenoid valves.Have experienced similar symptoms with this as the fault.
