I had recently a CIM in hand I have decoded the key position high speed CAN data. Here it is.

CIM CAN ID: 380h

Data format 8 bytes: xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx
Ignition on: xx 02 xx xx xx xx 07 xx
Start position: xx 03 xx xx xx xx 05 xx
Key out: xx 01 xx xx xx xx 06 xx

Observations: message cycle time is 100 ms or at new data change. If we define data bytes from DB7 to DB0, the following:
- DB7 is a cyclic counter, to indicate CIM is alive and good
- DB0 is a cyclic counter, to indicate CIM is alive and good

Just a quick follow up on this one.

A second hand replacement ECU has rectified the original complaint of intermittent cranking

A big THANK YOU to Liviu and Kevin Ives for their invaluable input thorough out this journey that has many twists and turns along the way which I will write about in a case study very soon

I hope this helps, take care.....Steve

Hi all, Signum 2003, Z32SE engine, same symptoms, solved yesterday with another engine ecu. This problem now for sure its typical to this engine / ecu combination.

Hi Liviu, thanks again for the feedback and sharing another adventure.

I forgot to include the full version of the Vectra Case Study can now be read here https://www.picoauto.com/library/case-s ... -non-start

It is heavy going (as was the diagnosis) but hopefully this will help someone somewhere

Take care....Steve
