NVH & HGV/Off Highway

Post by ben.martins »

Hi all,

Hope all are safe and well?

Just wanted to get some general feedback on those that might be using Pico NVH in the HGV and Off Highway sector.

I believe some users have mentioned it before and using NVH with J1939 and I was interested to know who has had success in getting engine and/or road speed successfully and with which VCI's.

So far I've tried and have had success with -

Jaltest
USBLink2 (NexIq)
DrewLinq (Drewtech/Opus)
DPA5 (Dearborn group)
Bosch

If anyone has any feedback on using NVH with these devices for HGV and Off Highway please let me know.

Kind regards

Ben

Hi bobbb999,

I did see in the ELM327 handbook that you can configure it for J1939 and nice to hear you have got it working. I don't doubt that there will be some issues with gear positions especially with a split box. I assume that you will have added the gear ratios in to the vehicle setup.

You can also use the gear positioning option when selecting Channel D tach input.

We have added a new feature request to the software which is to allow the user to override the automatic gear position call out and instead allow the user to input the gear position using the arrows. The gear changing in the software will of course be the responsibility of the person in charge of the laptop. The other way is to use a microphone during the recording to narrate the gear positioning which will be recorded with the capture.

I know this isn't perfect but it thanks to people like yourself using the software and providing us the feedback we can work on making the software better.

Kind regards

Ben

Hey Ben,

We teach an NVH class to our dealerships. Our warranty department has a preferred NVH tool that they pay claims for using but it's not the PS NVH. However, we use the PS NVH to help explain what the other tool is doing and the logic behind it.

We have had success using the DrewLinq and the NEXIQ USB-Link2. We primarily use the USB-Link2 though as that's by far the most common VCI we have.

If you need any more information or input, we can chat about it on teams or email.

Thanks krabkakes,

Sad times they don't accept PS NVH but appreciate that some VM's will already have an NVH solution in place. Great to hear you're using it in training though as hopefully the visualization of the signals helps the delegates with the understanding.

I have had the same success with both DrewLinq and NexIQ USB Link 1 & 2 as well as the DPA05 pro. In theory the J1939 option should allow any RP1210 device to connect to our NVH software. We only 'sniff' the bus for the relevant data packets in order to obtain engine and road speed so it's less complicated behind then scenes when compared with J2534.

Thanks for letting me know and if you fancy a chat sometime on NVH, or anything else, please let me know.

Kind regards

Ben
