Question about acceleration units of measure

Post by 84dime »

Hello I am very new to the picoscope as well as measuring acceleration. My question is the unit of measure for acceleration a linear scale? For example if I am getting say 10mg from the seat track while the engine is running with OEM engine mounts, then i put some harder engine mounts in the vehicle and I am now getting 20mg is the vibration double of what OEM mounts would be? Thank you for any help.

Hello and thank you for the post

The scale for measurement of acceleration with our NVH software is linear for mg and m/s2

We also have the option to change the units to dBg (log scale) if required

Using the linear scale, 20 mg is double the vibration level of 10 mg assuming the test conditions for both measurements (new and old engine mounts) were exactly the same

I hope this helps, take care.....Steve
