How to determine 1th cylinder on mechanical diesel engine

Post by Andrus »

Hi Everybody!
I just got Pico standard kit + WPS500+ Firstlook sensor + new 2000 Amp clamp.
Made test with friend Volvo CR diesel engine ( just test, car is 2 years old and no problems )
Couple questions came out:
1. With Pico diagnostics battery test I connected voltage probe with crocodile straight to alternator and message, that no voltage signal. Measured with scope B channel and there definitely was voltage. Put croc to battery directly and we at least got some measurements. :)

We run test and I also added new 2000A clamp on channel B.

It showed that about 150 A during crank ? I expect at least 250 A during crank on engine. I did not saw any place for amp clamp selection ( 600 vs 2000 A )
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I have my own Opel Zafira A with mechanical diesel pump. Any clue, how to determine 1. cylinder on it ?, because there is no electrical injector on it. Also, I need to deal with other old mechanical diesel engines .

Any ideas how to get it ?

All the Best,

Andrus

Hi,

I have used a diesel piezoelectric sensor on the number 1 cylinder fuel line. They come with different sizes, so be aware of this - if you choose to buy one. The piezoelectric sensor produces a small voltage.

The image here are taken on a VW TDI with a mecanical injection pump VP37 where I´ve have FLS sensor in the tail pipe and the piezo electric clamp on fuel line to cylinder number 1.

I hope that it answers some of your questions.

Hi Kim

Where did you get your piezo sensor?

Hi Simon

I really can't remember it but I think it was from www.ntxtools.com. Search for this part number GTC-TD101DSU6.

Hi Kim,

That what I thought: to use piezo sensor,
but I wanted to know does it exist and maybe someone came out with other ideas.

again, thank You for part code:

AVL also have a clip on one - never used it.
