No Kv spike

Post by wilki279 »

hi all bit of a newbie to scope diagnostics, have taken some readings from the ignition system on a 1.6, k4m, Renault megane, 2004, cop, 2 wire. On inspecting waveforms noticed the ignition waveform had no voltage spike when coil initially fires just the burn line which looks fine to me, can anyone shed any light to why these would be missing.
Thanks

Hi,

The kV spike is there is just that the capture time is 100 seconds whilst the max no of samples is set to 1 million. The 1 million samples have been spread out over the 100 seconds only allowing around 10,000 samples per second.

Either drop the capture time down to a few seconds or up the no of samples (if you do need 100 seconds). If you right click and display properties you can view the actual sampling rate - for igniton you need 1MS/s min.

BTW a few times the scope did sample on the peak - its about 220V which looks OK for primary - zoom in around -36.36 seconds

Hi,

Do you have an issue with the car or was it just the KV spike you were looking for advice on?

Matt
