Keep getting eratic readings and an error message and it all stops after about 10 secs.
Error - Index was outside the bounds of the array
What is that likely to mean?
Its possibly to do with the Signal Strength thats being seen by the PicoScope and Pico Diagnostics Software.
Unfortunalty i have seen this quite a lot on GM's i.e. Vectras, Astras etc. When scoping the Alternator Output on PicoScope its quite 'unstable' compared to other OEM's Output.
Have you tried really loading the alternator up to get a better 'Alternator Ripple Signal', for me i have to have the following on then i find it becomes more stable and gives a better reading:-
Main Beam
Front Fogs
Interior Heater (Full)
Heated Rear Screen
Signal Strength was 100% all 10 times i tried it. I didn't try loading any higher then just head lights if the customer comes back today i will have a go but he manually tested compression and found it to be low on one bank. I code read and found multiple misfire codes. I think he's already decided the engine is kaputt

Quite a lot of work is being done on the code for cylinder balance at the moment. If you still have access to the car please can you try again with the latest beta release from http://labs.picotech.com/ and then upload the file here for us to check.
I have been trying the engine balancing test in 3 cars... I don't know why but it always shows ERROR. Yes, I have tried to connect the leads the battery, alternator and starter. Also I did it with the lights ans several electrical loads on.
Ferrari 308. Running perfect.
Ferrari 360. with a P1160 code on.
Ferrari 456. With a bad Idle.
I am a bit confused now as I was fairly sure most of the V8s are flat plane other than when fitted into a Maserati when they use a 90 degree crank for smoother running?

Yes, you are right the Ferrari V8 engines have a flat crankshaft (F308 and F360). They work as two 4 Cylinder engines on the same crank with two separate ECU's to manage each bank.
The F456 has a V12, They also run as a two 6 cylinder engines with two separate ECU's. of course the crankshaft shape is different than V8.
