PicoScope 6.7 Beta released! (Updated)

Post by Alan »

** Update ** PicoScope 6.7.02 beta release is now available - see post below.

PicoScope 6.7.01 is now available as a beta release via http://labs.picotech.com/ This beta release provides you with an early chance to try out new features.

PicoScope beta releases install alongside your existing version of PicoScope so it is possible to use both versions on the same PC. This enables you to swap back without re-installing if you find a bug.

The new features are as follows:

1. Faster USB streaming sampling
At longer timebases (more than 1 sec across the screen) data is drawn on the screen at the same time as it is collected. In this mode data is "streamed" continuously across the USB link.

We have made significant improvements to this USB streaming which for most devices currently on sale has increased the streaming sampling rate from 1MS/s to 10MS/s.

As well as the improved sampling rate, streaming mode uses the PC memory for waveform storage so is not limited by the buffer memory of the oscilloscope hardware. A massive 100 million samples can be collected using PicoScope in streaming mode.

The PicoScope 4223 and 4423 can now stream data in PicoScope at 10MS/s. Users of the older PicoScope 3223 and 3423 have not been left out as these devices can now stream at 6MS/s. In all cases the max sampling rate is divided by the number of channels in use.

2. FlexRay Decoding
We have now added FlexRay to the list of protocols that you can decode. PicoScope can now decode the three main automotive serial protocols (CAN, LIN and FlexRAY).

3. Option to move the trigger & start/stop controls
Some customers with small laptop screens like to use the Windows option to "Auto hide the taskbar". This can cause problems if the windows task bar pops up and hides the start / stop and trigger controls in PicoScope. A new setting in PicoScope (Tools / Options) allows you to move the start / stop and trigger control to the top of the screen.

4. Improved library of preset tests
We have updated our library of reference waveforms / preset tests. The following are either updated or new tests:

ISCV / IAC, hot wire AFM, crank sensor, zirconia lambda sensor, analog MAP sensor, Bosch diesel and CDi 3 injectors, distributor primary & secondary, coil output test, accelerator pedal sensor, digital ABS speed sensor, throttle servo, coil on plug primary & secondary, DIS positive-fired, digital air flow meter, VAG PD injector, motorcycle injector current, diesel TMAP, CRD fuel pressure sensor, DIS dual driver primary, low-voltage COP secondary test, 4-wire COP.

5. Updated language files
This release adds Korean and updates the German Translation. This is in addition to Japanese and Polish which have also been recently added.

6. Selecting custom probes
A minor change - some customers have pointed out that you have to enable a channel before selecting a custom probe. We have changed the behaviour so that it possible for example to select a current clamp probe without having to first switch on a channel.

7. Vehicle library option
From the Tools / Preferences / Options menu you can enable the option to "show vehicle library on save". This will prompt you to add vehicle make/mode and optionally customer information before saving.

8. Improved Battery Test
The battery test in PicoDiagnostics has been improved with an option to select the type of battery chemistry. This gives more accurate state of charge and CCA test results.

How much does this upgrade cost?
If you have owned a PicoScope for some time now, you already know the answer. As always these new features are available by a free download.

On the 23rd April PicoScope R6.7.02 beta was uploaded. This contains the same new features as R6.7.01 but has had a few customer reported bugs fixed. Most significant is a fix to the problem where it was not possible to zoom in on large waveforms that had been previously saved / reloaded.

We have also tweaked the code to increase the sampling rate at longer timebases/memory combinations.

Hi, how to set the software to save data directly to computer ? I have tried to set time base more than 1s/div , and the software still just save 32 buffers.

To change the number of waveform buffers goto Tools->Preferences->MaximumWaveforms

Can you check that you have Microsoft .NET Framework version 2 installed, if not please install it first.

Do you have Administrator privileges on this PC. When opening the Command Prompt right click and Run as Administrator then run the exe without the logging command.
