9-volt vane air flow meter?

Post by joeyoone »

I have a 1990 Mazda MPV 3.0L 2WD.

This is my first time encounter with this vehicle. The voltage reference (VR) from the vane air flow meter is 9 volts. The battery signal (VB) at the airflow meter harness is okay (14volts). A throttle snap test confirms the meter is responding appropriately as a 0-5 volt meter, however with the exception of it idling at 5 volts and stepping through 9 volts during the throttle snap test.

I’ve tested a second junker air flow meter with the same results. Before I purchase a new meter, can someone confirm for me if this vehicle uses a 9 volt reference signal for the vane air flow meter? None of my documentation mentions this. Many thanks.

Called Air Flow Meter Voltage Divider Reference, with Ignition ON you should have 7 to 9 Volts.
