Hello from Spain!!

Post by Walterronny »

Hi! im happy to receive tomorrow my new Picoscope equipment. i already have another oscilloscope just always wanted a picoscope due big development in software i think. My big goal right now is to "decoder" a Kline from a Honda Civic model, it has a kinda multiplexer that send signal to coolant temp, also it send messange when A/C is ON - OFF . i already tried with a logi analyzer but we want to measure too a line where maybe goes up to 12v in some case..i hope to get it done using picoscope, anyway i hope you can help me up a bit trying it when i get info using picoscope. i already reserach about kline and there is a good "write-up" about kline but i think it's a bit different, here is more info https://www.hondata.com/help/kmanager/i ... output.htm, problem is i didnt get any signal similar to it so i will try another line that goes after ecu send the signal to multiplex module.

Just asking if there is any option that software can compare different packs of signal ? i means, you know kline send packs of info , in the case there is any change in other pack in the same measurment, software would detect it? Thank you in advance!!

W.

Hello W and thank you for the introduction, welcome to the forum

It sounds like your PicoScope cannot arrive a moment too soon as you need to decode whist also monitoring analogue events such as voltage etc.

This is where PicoScope comes into its own as you can capture K-Line serial data prior too, during and after the offending analogue event

PicoScope will also help you decide if the offending analogue event is the cause of any K-Line serial data errors or a consequence of (i.e. erroneous instruction)

Regarding K-Line decoding, please see Ben’s post here viewtopic.php?p=101250#p101250 which will provide you with packet orders and the facility to query the decoded data for errors that may or may not coincide with analogue events

The following video looks at CAN (not K-Line) but does include the technique used to capture and correlate both an analogue event (Brake pedal activation) and serial data (CAN data filed) containing this “Brake on/off" message simultaneously https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-Uqou348uk&t=7s

I hope the above helps and please feel free to share you PicoScope experiences both good and bad as a new user and good luck with the Honda

Oh no! Sorry, I had assumed you would receive an Auto scope

Before you get going, could you take a look here where we summarize the difference between the T&M and Auto scope options viewtopic.php?p=87821#p87821

Please refer back to Ben's decoder forum post as this utilises RS232/UART for K-Line so you might be ok

You may however struggle with vertical resolution and sampling so please take it step by step

I hope this helps, take care......Steve
