Body noise

Post by Alan Campbell »

I would like to know if it is possible to use the NVH kit to locate body noise. I have a V class mercedes with a noise from around the NS sliding door / upper C-pillar area when driving. The door is fitted correctly and all runners etc are visibly ok. We have the kit but no one has used it. If anybody can share any test methods if the kit can be used for this.

Hi Alan, thank you for the post

Body noise most certainly can be diagnosed with our NVH kit

Training with our NVH kit will help ease the learning curve prior to measurement, but with that said, there are times (like this) where the demand for a solution arrives long before training

To become familiar with our NVH, the fastest route would be via YouTube
We have 7 episodes in our NVH Series here:

Because we are measuring a body creak/noise, you may find the Time Domain method more applicable

To reduce the “just-in-time training” time, if you can watch episode 1, 2 & 3, then jump to episode 5

In addition to the above, could you watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxSRN7V0ctk&t=56s where you can see multiple accelerometers in use to detect momentary noises (I am assuming the symptom we have with the V-Class?)

Here is another case study looking at a suspension rattle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCrnOsmunYg&t=222s

I hope these help and please feel free to feedback when you can

Take care……..Steve
