2012 ford galaxy smoking

Post by Andym77 »

Hi all.
Have a ford galaxy 2.0tdci 2012. Have only just bought this ( privately). Was ok for 2 days, then decided to start smoking under acceleration and range meter displays —- instead of mpg etc. will be perfect for about 1 mile then range goes —- and the smoke starts. If I pull vaporiser fuse everything works as normal, range displayed and no smoke, no loss of power. When smoking it is only doing a average of 15mpg compared to 38mpg normally. Have had a look and a brand new vaporiser is fitted. Previous owner at last responded and said vaporiser replaced and regen carried out. At a loss with it as not sure where to check next, I have forscan.
Many thanks

Morning Andy
Do you have any Dtcs stored

The vapouriser is basically a Venturi so a mechanical device.
The fuel delivery to vaporiser is controlled by modulating the in line pump and should only be done in regen.

Check serially the egt temps and soot masses as stored in live data , with the concern apparent is the vaporiser pump commanded on?

Hi Danny

No DTC stored at all, it’s as though the pump is kicking in after 0.5miles even from cold. Soot load is 300% but value doesn’t drop even after forced regen. Smokes under acceleration bad, if fuse pulled for vaporiser it drives perfect with no smoke.
Found the cure in the end 😁
Read a post on different forum exactly same issue, so did what they did.
£108 later at independent ford specialist for a PCM update and it’s running perfectly

Soot load of 300percent open or closed loop.
Sounds like the pcm had locked the soot calculation ,did you try to reset the dog learned values if so both open and closed loop would revert back to null or zero.
I have had experience of this with the dw10 engine and the update isn't the fix it's just it unlocks the module to reset the soot counters the only other way is pull off the pressure pipe from the dpf and drive it until the p2000 is logged then reset the values for dpf then the counters will show null.
