Current in Hybrid Vehicle

Hi
I got this waveform from a scan tool and I'm wondering what exactly I'm seeing. I don't understand why there's negative values for current drain in a Hybrid car. Any help or answer would be greatly appreciated.

One has to charge the battery as well, not only discharge it. Engineers thought that using minus and plus signs would help with that identification of energy flow direction.

My guess would be you are looking at direct current flowing into and out of a high voltage component(for example the HV battery or DC/DC converter). It's up to the engineers to decide which current direction is displayed as negative or positive on a scan tool PID.
