Cam crank signal Ford Focus 2 diesel 2010 hdi

Post by orlandocars »

Hi
I’ve got a Ford Focus 2010 2.0 hdi non start since cambelt replacement,
New Ford reluctor ring fitted.

The Cam / crank wave form looks ok except at the Tdc event, where it is inverted compared to a known good.

Timing tripled checked, any thoughts of why it could be inverted.

Thanks for looking

Picture 1,2 is my car
Picture 3 is known good

Le: where is the signal inverted? Is the engine still having compression? Can you post both waveforms?

Hi Car starts and runs fine on brake cleaner.
the first 2 pictures are faulty crank waveform and bottom picture 3 is known good.

At the tdc event blue crankshaft sensor ,the larger segment is to the left on my faulty waveforms
but to the right on the known good .

Thanks for looking

Hi.
Car starts and runs fine on brake cleaner.

The inverted / faulty pattern is on the blue crank waveform.
At the Tdc event the larger segment is in the left of the Tdc event on my faulty car pictures 1&2.
But on the known good , lower picture 3 , the larger segment is on the right of the Tdc event.

My question is what is causing this issue

Thanks for your help

Joe

I question the known good waveform... as the CKP signal is missing parts, since it starts / runs on alternative fuel have you looked into the cars source of fuel?

Car starts and runs fine on brake cleaner
.

Really !! ??

I endorse Brake Cleaner as a diagnostic Aid, A very crude one but never the less very Crude.
I'm guessing your customer is paying you to make it run on Diesel not Brake Cleaner ?

It is equal to Holistic Medicine, Horoscopes and Witchcraft.

FIRST. The "Missing Tooth" is not the TDC Event !! It is the Crankshaft Position Reference. Big Difference, Massive Difference !!!

Having the Missing tooth at TDC, for many reasons would force the ECU to use Historical Data, It would be all over before it started, Premature ??

Us Humans and engines don't like surprises. We like some time to prepare.

Is this a Hall Effect or Inductive Sensor ??? 2 or 3 Wire !! ???

Is your Engine Running backwards ??? How else could the Crank Pattern be Upside Down ?

Wrong Crank Phase Wheel ??

Lack of Testing / Technical Knowledge ??

What is Fuel Pressure And RPM ??

Where are you probing for CKP, At Sensor or ECU ?

Hi
Thanks for the replies

The rail pressure sensor is reading .5v Koeo , 1volt cranking and you Can see Pump waveform rising and falling. ( .8v- 1v. )
280 -300 rpm on live data, but certainly cranks fast enough to start

Signal taken at Ecu and sensor and giving the same readings.

New genuine Ford reluctor ring fitted. Only 1 listed , And crank sensor.
I haven’t physically checked the rotation of the engine when cranking, but it must be in the right direction if it starts with brake cleaner ?

But I will physically check

Had another car , same year/engine in today
and waveform was identical to known good

It seems like the reluctor needs to be fitted back to front. But it can’t.
Cam crank readings taken at Ecu and at sensors
I will check relative compression as well thanks

Regards

Joe
