Dual data capture when test driving.

Post by Choppered&Whoppered »

Has anyone successfully collected RPM signal from the DLC for NVH and captured the same drive with software like Toyota's Tech-stream simultaneously.

Hello and thank you for the post

Toyota/Lexus have historically provided an engine speed signal output on pin 9 of the Diagnostic connector

I am not sure of the number of pulse per engine revolution but we can confirm the number if we connect pin 9 of the OBD socket to Channel D of PicoScope (NVH) and select "Square Wave/Tach" at the NVH Set up screen.

If you then wish to use Tech Stream simultaneously we can use the Pico NVH 16 Pin BOB which will allow you to connect to the ODB socket via the 16 pin link-through of the BOB.16 Pin BOB

We can then connect channel D of PicoScope to Pin 9 of the BOB (via a BNC to 4mm banana test lead) to also acquire engine speed.

In this scenario you can now have your serial data list displayed whilst capturing NVH data.

You will however have to use the "Calculate Road Speed" feature of NVH and input the transmission ratios in the "Advanced" section of the Vehicle Information Tab.

You will be required to select the gear position manually within the NVH software with the above setup

I hope this helps, take care.......Steve
