BNC Extension Cable - Female to Male

Post by ashtray1987 »

Hi Guys,

Wondered if you had plans to sell a BNC extension cable, but with a female to male end.

The reason I ask is because I frequently have issues with cable length when performing CAN bus wakeup measurements. I don't want to extend the regular test leads as this will give too much capacitance in the line and affect serial decoding. However I would like to extend the current clamp cable with a female to male BNC cable.

Nearly always when I perform these measurements the battery is in the trunk and the CAN connectors are in the front footwells and the cable length isn't sufficient.

If you can put it up for sale I will gladly purchase it from you :-)

Thanks
Ash

Personally I use a TA130  https://www.picoauto.com/products/test- ... ed-bnc-5-m and just stick a gender changer between it and the clamp, cheap as chips on your internet store of choice.

eg. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Female-Gender- ... way&sr=8-2

Hello,
Here you will find some answers,I think I attached some measurements of capacitance/meter of different types of cables :)
topic21591.html?&p=98078#p98078
Use the shortest cable what you have to make a good CAN capture,TA130 is good for pressure sensors ,not for CAN FD or Flexray measurements .Maybe tomorrow I will measure the capacitance of TA130 :D
Best regards

Victor,

ashtray only need to extend the current clamp to measure at the battery in the boot the measurement leads for the CAN signal can still be kept short.

Thanks Kev,
Anyway, here you can find the capacitance of different cables if you need to make the right choose
http://www.rfcafe.com/references/electr ... -chart.htm
but according to my measurements a twisted pair of wires(even if will have 3-5 meters) and a male BNC plug is good for use for CAN measurements.Today I measured my TA130-500 pF
Best regards
