2012 Focus cuts out cam crank ?

Postby spanners83 » Fri Dec 08, 2017 3:18 pm

Hi we have a 2012 1.6 eco boost which starts up then cuts out it has had a engine fitted which is a new lump from vege. it has no codes. good fuel pressure 70 bar cranking it does fire but hen dies when scoping the injectors they are being triggered when its cranking and it wont start. we have a wave form from both cams and crank I find it a little odd that both cams give the same signal. ?

Spanners,

Have a look at the waveform library. (do not forget that you will need a scope connected in order to access the WFL :) ) There is a WF from formation64 that is listed for a 2012 focus petrol. Sadly there is no engine code!
(A great example of how important it is to fill in all the vehicle details before you save the WF.)

In the above WF there is an offset between the two cams of approximately one Crankshaft tooth. However a note of caution as this is a VVT engine you really need to disable the VVT control before you scope the signals in order to remove that variable.

Your WF is a bit lacking in detail I would suggest that you up the sample rate to at least 1MS, 2MS would be better, and as you still have a spare channel throw in No1 injector in order to get a sync.

You could try to PM formatio64 to see if they can recall what engine their WF was from.

Good luck with the diag.

You could try disconnecting one cam shaft sensor and see if it runs. Then try disconnecting the other sensor and see if it runs. Try a relative compression waveform with a second channel on the ignition coil current. To see relationship between TDC and coil firing.

Does this log a correlation error between cam, crank . If so run pcm service function to clear learned values. If not and engine changed for overheating check injectors for fuel delivery.
The other issue ive seen is the coil ground not secured correctly to the engine block .
