PicoScope 6 Automotive beta 6.12.4.2427

Post by Steve Smith »

For some time now I have been going on about the "up and coming" beta build.

Well thanks to the team here at Pico it is ready for download at https://www.picoauto.com/downloads

Beta Version 6.12.4.2427 is well worth reviewing given the numerous features added.

Take care........Steve

Danny

What do you mean by drain check ?
Is there an article or thread you can post a link to ?

I followed one of the links in Steve,s post ,in library under guided tests it gives a parasitic drain check under guided diagnostics in beta format. I downloaded the latest beta but cannot find it in beta diagnostics nor the beat automotive .
It was just something I wanted to try as I had mondeo draining today .
I ended up reverting to clamp and meter it just looked a great test.

There have been a few articles on this topic. Using the Amp Clamp has limitations as ambient temperatures and the Amp Clamp Battery will drift over time. Especially if you are testing over extended periods of time - overnight for instance.

I have had good results using a 0.01 or 0.1 ohm Resistor bolted in between the B- terminal & the earth cable.

You can the scope the Volt Drop across the resistor on one channel and the battery voltage on another. Next create a Math Channel using ohms law to determine Current ( a stable voltage battery support unit is a good optional extra to the test)

Then it is a case of Current = Voltage / Resistance which the correctly configured Math Channel will display for you.

Here is a thread that goes into some detail

Hope that helps

Only thing I will add is, bolt it (the resistor) tight onto a thick metal plate to minimise temperature change.
