Ford Transit cam vs crank wavform

Postby s4c » Tue Sep 20, 2016 1:03 am

Hi

I have a 2008 Ford Transit with a 2.4 H9FB engine.

The garage I perform diagnostics for replaced the engine from Ford and hasn't started since.

High pressure fuel pressure was low. I found some fuel leaks, which i repaired and fuel pressure now matches spec on IDS.

The vehicle will start with a sniff of easy start, and run rough. On an key start it will not go and there is no injection trigger.

I am looking for a known good trace for cam vs crank, I have downloaded one from the waveform library and it is out compared to mine. There is one on there which is close, but that is from a 2.2 engine.

I have included my trace to have a look at. [UPDATE. I keep getting a message that the forum has reached its upload quota, I will try again later]

Regards

Simon

What's the frp with ,inj and imv disconnected after 5 sec crank?
Was the fuel system capped when disassembled?.

If there is no pressure it will never inject ,it needs over 150bar to sync injection 200 to run.
Check ckp airgap

Hi Danny

As far as I know the fuel system wasn't capped when engine was pulled.

On cranking frp matches desired

I will do the test you describe and report back

Hi

Turned out to be a poor quality fuel filter. OE filter was a fix!

A known good waveform will be uploaded onto the database as soon as I can.

Attached is the known good.

Hi Simon
Was the fuel filter starving fuel or allowing air in the system?
&
Did the ECU shut down the injector drivers etc......
Sorry for the 20 questions mate, I'm preparing for my courses and sponge like atm.

I've had something similar on a ford kuga which dragged air into the system (aftermarket, coopers fuel filter, customer supplied part) the o ring was a tad too thick causing the plastic filter housing to warp & ingress of air.
This was a no start when left overnight.

Hi EAAD

Sorry its taken so long to come back to you.

The filter was allowing air into the system and causing a low pressure in the fuel rail. The PCM wouldn't trigger the injectors because the fuel pressure hadn't reached the threshold required for starting.

I hope this helps
