Forum Areas

Post by busjockey »

Hi Steve, have you considered maybe branching out the forums for particular areas of repair? You could have a automotive section and then a Heavy Duty Truck and Bus section, also motorcycles, that way people of different specializations will be able to find what they are looking for quickly. Thank you. :)

Hello and thank you for the suggestion. Here at Pico we have the "Ideas funnel" that all suggestions are fed into and we then follow a process as they come through the narrow end. Rest assured I will post this suggestion as I do with any made by forum users and customers alike.

There are always "fore and against" with any style of change, fore being the ease at which you may be able to locate a concern relative to your style of vehicle, but against where a particular engine is shared by multiple vehicles e.g. A particular thread is posted under the commercial vehicle section that has relevance to the marine section etc.

Thanks again for the continued posts, take care.....Steve

I was going to start a separate topic but it appears others have already mentioned it. So I'll just tack this post on.

Hi all.

To follow up un a previous comment on forum improvements. I think a lot of people will visit a forum out of habit. But if nothing happens for long periods of time people stop returning. Varity is the spice of life.

Some idea's I have,.
An 'open board" for everyday chat. Not everybody wants to talk cars all day every day.

A 'technical projects board" where members could post their projects - BMW seat pad emulators, airbag emulators that require more than a resistor, Ford smartlock bypass (although that is a bit dated LOL) are some projects come to mind. After all the Picoscope is used by very technically minded people.

Perhaps a trade board or a board for established members.

A scan tool board. After all it's often the tool that is used preceding the scope. There is a lot of questions scan tool leave unanswered. Can that tool do that job?

These are just some ideas. The participating members on here have grown and Steve has done a lot to get the ball rolling. But I think one needs more than another badly captured problem to keep returning. :)

Hopefully other members may take this opportunity to add some input.

Cheers
FF

Hi FF

I understand your concern how this forum are being used right now.

There are certainly things that can be done in a different manner and as you already have mentioned a couple of good ideas regarding the construction of this forum, which I think could be a way to improve the quality of this this forum.

I would like to ask everybody there are using this forum, what are there expectations to this forum !!!

Regards
Kim

Just to add to the above post.

I dont know if there are guidelines how to ask or present a diagnostic problem in this forum.

If not, then I think there should be minimum of information/data available for the members to make a qualified decision of what do with the diagnostic problem.

From time to time, when we are faced with a diagnostic problem, we only have limited information available to use - sometimes there is only some written text without info regarding what engine code or what car model we are dealing with.

We are not god !!!. We cant see through engine and say whats wrong or what do in that situation, when the engine behave strangely.

A good diagnostic approach starts with the communication with the customer and the information that he or she can give regarding how the problem has developed over time.

But sadly, is there many there think, if we only get the diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) that its enough to diagnose there problem car, but its not enough in my opinion.
