Re: Volvo V70 VVT-solenoid trace

Is it common for a faulty solenoid to have a normal resistance unplugged, but almost open when energized? Yes. There is almost no current load when measuring resistance. Circuit may show perfect resistance value unloaded but fail instantly when current is applied. There are very few placed where re...

Re: Volvo V70 VVT-solenoid trace

First of all don't use auto-scaling for voltage. Always select voltage range yourself. Either lower sample rate or save only one waveform buffer to get smaller filesize. Supply voltage is OK. Control is OK. But beacuse of almost open circuit in solenoid there is no current and control signal voltage...

Re: Volvo V70 VVT-solenoid trace

What's the actual fault code? This measurement doesn't give enough information. Too low timebase and no current trace. Also should measure power and ground at the same time also. But from what I see there is nothing in voltage trace that could cause fault code. You could get fault code for VVT solen...

Re: New PicoScope Test: Ford Focus Smart Alternator

There are no waveforms at all in VIDA. Don't try to find any. Signal in wiring diagram is not CAN type and not being displayed as. You have misread it. Some images attached that explain. Control signal is PWM type so that info is correct in VIDA. But there are many times where this is incorrect, esp...

Re: New PicoScope Test: Ford Focus Smart Alternator

From that capture it's safe to say that you need new alternator. I recommend new Denso unit. Denso is rather bad but lot better than other replacements. But please specify what information you want to find in VIDA? None of information from my last post can be found in VIDA. Except ECM pinout and sig...

Re: New PicoScope Test: Ford Focus Smart Alternator

These Denso alternators are known to fail regulary on these cars. But need to check anyway. Alternator may be faulty and could pull control signal to ground. Disconnect connector and measure signals then. Altarnator should provide 12V to Pin2 and ECM pulls it to ground. If it's disconnected then you...

Why should one use two tools at the same time if there is possibility to use only one?

Running math live is not a best option.

In automotive most signals are low type so I agree with Dave Hill that it's time to get it implemented.

Re: Volvo v70 diesel

RYM6746 i bealieve you are taking about 2.0D engine. This is 2,4 and does have two regulators but volume regulator is on pump and pressure regulator at fuel rail.

This of course doesn't mean that there could not be something wrong with either of these.

Re: Volvo v70 diesel

Scope crank sensor and sync it to some injector current. And post here.
