Capturing Intermittents

Hi John, The dual 128k buffer in your 212/50 allows you to collect up to 128,000 samples on one screen, per channel. Since each channel also has a 50MHz ADC, none of the resources are shared and it samples just as fast on one channel as it does on two. The actual sample rate varies by how much time ...

Scan data

Pete, You need a scan tool to access PCM data stream. You can look at the raw serial data with PicoScope, but it would be like listening to a PC modem hooking up. You know its talking, but you have no idea what it's saying. :? You'll see the data pulses. That can be useful if your scan tool will not...

O2 cycling

Hi Pete, The switching style Zirconia sensor design causes it to switch at stoic. It's the fuel control system that is manipulating the mixture that makes it switch back and forth. This is closed loop fuel control. The control system takes away fuel when O2 signal is rich and adds when it's lean. If...

The 212/50 would be just as good as the 100 when using both channels, but the 212/3 is very capable also. You can use trigger to capture an intermittent if you can accurately guess what is failing. You can repeat trigger off of the suspect and if it fails, the scope will stop; hopefully with somethi...

Accessories

I'm not sure what it would take to make a 20:1 Attenuator, but I do know the ones Pico have work really well. They are accurate and distortion free. As for the secondary pickups, these are capacitive 10,000/1 attenuated leads that produce a really nice response. An RPM pickup for your DVOM is an ind...

settings

If you email me directly and let me know your brother's name, I will check and see if you need to be plugged into our support network. You probably are not plugged in. If he got it recently, there was a CD included with our tutorial movie library as well as a PicoScope tips article. All that will an...

Measuring Injector Pulse Width

Under Settings/Measurements there are a lot of measurements you can choose that will display automatically. However, none of these will measure Injector Pulse Width accurately. This is because the injector waveform is a complex waveform and there are different types as well. Even automotive scopes t...

TA 012

The breakout lead is designed for an injector. It connects to many of them, but not all. It's nice to have but it doesn't do anything you can't do by backprobing. It cannot be used on MAF sensors.

Secondary

Hi Sprince, As you have already discovered, PicoScope can show intense detail on secondary ignition. To try to address your question... When it comes to ignition, timing is a huge part if it. The timing curve should optimize the burn over the RPM and load range for a particular engine. The goal of t...
