Re: Accurate and Stable low amps measurement

I'm really enjoying this thread. I have been continually looking for a better solution to dealing with Parasitic draw. Thought you all might be interested in this diy project. And now that I have a better understanding of the way the PicoScope works - I would like to see hardware to go with it. I us...

Re: Accurate and Stable low amps measurement

Alan, Thank you for correcting me. I am still not use to how this works. Can you please explain it a bit further for me. 1000s / div means 1000 seconds per division ( I would think this to mean one sample every 1000s - where I went wrong) 10 divisions I am guessing this is how many divisions on the ...

Re: Accurate and Stable low amps measurement

Alan, If I'm calculating this right with that time base you would take a sample every 16 2/3 minutes and as you've recording over 3 hours. I was thinking of more like sampling at least once every minute to give enough resolution to get a good picture of the length of drains. I've seen a lot of these...

Re: Accurate and Stable low amps measurement

Can I ask - How are you guys incorporating this into the use of a picoscope? Are you using buffer triggers, and saving the buffer? How are you managing a recording over the course of a couple hours to a couple days? I have just started learning all the methods of triggering this scope, which there a...

Re: Accurate and Stable low amps measurement

That is exactly what made me choose this meter in the first place. 20 amp rating for the Ammeter. I have had an OTC 500 multi-meter for forever that came with a 20 amp rating. In anticipation of OTC unit failing I picked up a second meter from bluepoint at a steal and realized with a 15 amp rating i...

Re: Accurate and Stable low amps measurement

I had much the same problem....the inductive probes have a tendency to drift over the course of time you are trying to take measurements. What I've done instead is use an ES 595 Automotive meter. It has the ability to log to a computer. And instead of going inductive I go series. Very stable and acc...

Re: Other options for attenuators?

Usually you get -100 to +400V iirc, i duplicated the probe & added my own V scales so they went higher. You can also select the X20 probe, still using the attenuator . I think I've got it. The input range that was selected with the 20:1 attenuator was not the full extent of what could be used. I du...

Other options for attenuators?

I am currently working on a 1996 Mercedes-Benz C280 Ignition system. The system is set up distributorless with one coil per every two cylinders (Waste-spark). I was trying to tap into the primary ignition circuit with my 4423 at each of the coil primary ground leads and the cylinder block. I install...

Re: Surging idle, 91 Sable 3.8

Congrats on getting it figured out. I really wish I was there. I don't think I've ever seen a problem like that one. I really wonder if I would have caught it? I'm still surprised by what I was seeing in the ground circuit waveform. I didn't want to believe it. Glad to see you not only held to your ...

Re: Amp Clamp. Plese help.

Yes, I don't have the real pico amp probes. I guess what I have is the generic version of them. You can set up a custom probe to make a matching probe for what you have. I didn't have the BNC connection on my probes so had to connect them to the end of one of the standard banana to bnc cables. I'm g...
