Re: Landrover Disco2 TD5 CPS strange peak

Thanks for that FF. Yep, it's clear that the CPS trace you have has an identical high peak. So I'm not worried about that now! For information, this vehicle has been quite a case. In each measure, it has been an exercise in eliminating issues that could be causing the problem, until I finally produc...

Re: MAF testing

Hi FF, I think that it would be almost impossible to predict what airflow a MAF is reading (digital or analogue) without (as Tode says) having an extensive library of signal conversion files, and therefore it would be difficult to say "chicken or egg" from the operation of the engine over a speed an...

Re: Landrover Disco2 TD5 CPS strange peak

Thanks for all your responses on this. I had completely overlooked the chance that holes rather than teeth were present. I think that its more likely that the "TDC" hole is in-fact a mechanical pin engagement for locking the flywheel at the timing point for the cam-drive system. It probably doesn't ...

Re: Landrover Disco2 TD5 CPS strange peak

Thanks for that FF. TBH, I couldn't work-out how any fault could cause the peak to appear as it is, but I'm still intrigued as to the mechanical layout of the tooth that creates that peak, given that its width is the same as the remaining teeth. I have another possibility to measure a late TD5 with ...

Landrover Disco2 TD5 CPS strange peak

Has anyone got any good waveform of the Landrover TD5 diesel "Storm" gen2 engine crankshaft sensor? I have attached a waveform of CPS versus 2 injector currents (for timing reference) which has what looks like a TDC single tooth with high amplitude, once per engine revolution. I have never had to lo...

Re: Diagnostics using Pressure Transducers

Generally true, I would agree. To throw another spanner in the works, we would also have to consider visibility of the cylinder via the intake manifold when the EGR valve was open as well. Less a problem with gasoline until higher speeds/loads, but very likely at idle speed/load with a diesel.

Re: 8-Channel Oscilloscope for Automotive?

I agree with yourself Steve - 4 channels ought to be enough. The temptation to record "everything" in one shot means that the user is more likely to overlook something basic. Then again, how many times have there been frustrated help feedbacks on this forum where the OP has 4 channels, but has only ...

Re: How to measure a Bosch LSU 4.9 wideband lambda sensor

Hi Kim, Interesting results. If you are sure that the pull-up resistance is 1kOhm (and I'm fairly sure that you are right), then your sensor is over-reading the temperature. Assuming that the sensor is measuring the average temperature of the exhaust gas stream, and not a direct exhaust port tempera...

Re: Graphing RPM

Hi Steve You have most certainly counted correctly as I have not allowed for the missing teeth. I think I didn't. . My apologies. 2X 2 missing teeth. So 36 teeth. Which is a nicer number 10* each Cheers FF I'd reitterate what FF says here - you need to use 36 as the number of teeth per engin...

Re: *NEW* : PicoScope 4225 & 4425 Automotive scopes released

Tom & Steve, Many thanks for your feedbacks, it's much appreciated. Yes, I had considered using batt -ve as a common reference to a single measure point (i.e. one side of the ABS sensor output pins), but I need to re-visit this measurement again; sometime last year, I think that I tried that method ...
