Re: Lotus Esprit with low compression

hi i had another go at checking as Doc says hard to see evo and ivc clearly redid maths and had better results can we have those other waves please and and a wee peek at 1 or 2 cyl. ta much We did a capture of running compression on 1 and 2. I tried to upload them but have hit a limit on waveform u...

Re: Lotus Esprit with low compression

crackerclicker wrote:what is the actual complaint?
Its listed in the first post - its a bit odd as there are no symptoms at all but during testing of our software we found one cylinder had poor compression.

As above it will be Friday or Monday before we can perform more tests.

Re: Lotus Esprit with low compression

Thanks for the suggestions - sorry to keep you in suspense but I will not be back in the office until Friday so will do the tests then. Its turned into more of a mystery than we expected!

Re: Lotus Esprit with low compression

Hi,

Found the timing specs

All cams are symmetrical opening / closing
Open duration 252 degrees at crankshaft
Inlet maximum opening point 110 degrees ATDC
Exhaust maximum opening point 100 degrees BTDC

Will post some more waveforms later.

Re: Lotus Esprit with low compression

Edit.. Your screenshots look different to the psdata files I downloaded? Are we singing from the same hymn sheet? Its the same psdata file, but I did zoom in. Another possible difference is the units - I was set to imperial rather than metric. The compression does not drop below about 30psi. Out of...

Re: Lotus Esprit with low compression

I know we said we would do the tests suggested by forum members, but whilst we had the WPS500 pressure sensor in each cylinder we could not resist doing a running compression test. Cylinder 3. Running compression, snap throttle test koer snap throttle 3.gif KOER SNAP-THROTTLE-3.psdata Cylinder 4. Ru...

Re: Lotus Esprit with low compression

Hi Doc, It was a bit late when I captured these and apologies but I did not read your tests carefully enough. I captured using PicoScope when you wanted PicoDiagnostics. I think it still gives you the data you want though. If not let me know. Cylinder 3 pressure using WPS500 and cranking current. (W...

Lotus Esprit with low compression

The case study section of our forum is new, so to start things off we have decided to feature one of our own cars. Unlike a normal case study we honestly do not yet know whats wrong with this car. We want you, the readers to post suggestions as to what we should do next ! We will then carry out the ...

Re: Automotive kit test leads ?

Hi,

The input impedance of the PicoScope, is (like all scopes) 1 Mega ohm.

The standard test leads are well, just leads (ie just low impedance wire / shielded co-ax cable). When plugged in to the scope the impedance at the tips of the leads will be that of the scope - ie 1 M ohm.
