Apologies to Guest and Autonerdz for delay; I've been away much of the last few days. Thanks for replies. I've only had my new Pico Sope for a little while and not yet had time to repeat the tests with the great hardware and SUPERB software. The 87 page manual (!) hasn't yet sunk in, so I've only sc...

Sidetracked: problems on a Rover 827

I have a problem on a 1994 Honda 2.7 V6 engined Rover 827. Its emissions exceed the limits. I strongly suspect injector problems but the scope traces didn't look too bad. As a routine I put the scope on the ignition -- although I never really understand what I was looking at -- I never seem to get t...

Very quiet here isn't it? I have managed to solve some of the triggering and crosstalk problems I was having so the new traces are triggered on the primary ignition. http://www.netcareltd.plus.com/R820/ I've put a few screenshots with some commentary onto the above website. They are just bitmap (.BM...

Ricardo, many thanks for your response. Sorry, these are the best I could get. Also because I'm new to this I didn't realise that it's conventional to invert secondary traces. Lesson #1 learned. Because of the "wandering" baseline voltage I had a lot of trouble with triggering, so that even with one...

Michael, I have done some simple tests just on the MI074 HT probe. I measure a dead short (less than 0.1 ohm) from earth-clip to BNC's screen, as you would expect. I also measure a dead short from the HT-clip to the BNC's signal pin. This is a bit more unexpected, but you haven't revealed the constr...

My original scope is a Nicolet 310. It has 1 meg sampling rate, 2-channel (each differential) 1 megohm inputs. I know that it does not match with normal x10 probes because its input capacitance is too high. I think it's more than 60pF, but I can't find the actual spec just now, but I know that a x10...

Many thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately my laptop has gone on the blink. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

By the way, I didn't expect trade secrets, that's why I said "equivalent circuit" ;-) Surely that should be available?

Best regards,
Ed

Secondary ignition

I have never been able to get a sensible trace using the ignition pickup lead. After buying the pickup I put the problem down to the unusual input characteristics of my Nicolet bench scopes. The lead has rested undisturbed until a few days ago when I tried to use it again. Once more the trace is imp...
