Re: Battery test (In automotive diagnostic )

Many thanks for answering. However, it is not what I am after. I know the battery is fine, starter motor runs fine. I just wanted to know from the designer perspective, what that 80% means. How it is calculated and what is applied to. Many thanks for answering. However, it is not what I am after. I...

Re: Ford Smart Charging System

(1) If you're not or were not convinced that the regulator was needed then why replace it ? Is it because you were not paying for it but did profit from fitting it ? If neither then its Parts Darts. (2) Then we can think about Your "Auto Electricians" that "advised" you that a Calcium in a Smart Ch...

Re: Ford Smart Charging System

TBH looking at the sticker on the rear of the alternator, the rated output is 120A, the auto electrician did advise that the regulator was faulty and changed it, now before he changed it I had volt drop across the earth line around 0.39V, the alternator output measured across alternator case and bat...

Re: Ford Smart Charging System

I would take that pid as the set point for the alternator rather than the command , with you live data what was pcm supply voltage? Did this correspond to your 13.2v or did it read same as battery post? Danny I was concerned about that when I refitted the alternator, however after cleaning all cabl...

Re: Ford Smart Charging System

Did I understand correctly that "PID that shows Generator/Alternator voltage set point (v) recorded 13.2" means requested voltage by control module? Yes the PID shows Generator/Alternator voltage (v) as 13.2 Still confused. Does it mean measured voltage or requested voltage (command to alternator)?...

Re: Ford Smart Charging System

Can I ask you guys who test these alternator systems regular, can you vary the output from the alternator by somehow varying the command from the ECM?

Or is it just a case of running the engine at a fast idle and varying the loads by switching on more current demand from accessories?

Thanks

Re: Ford Smart Charging System

Did you check for correct information in Ford ETIS? For Volvo Smart Charge systems at +40C battery temperature voltage has to be between 13,27V and 14,07V. Higher temperature lowers voltage and vice versa. Did I understand correctly that "PID that shows Generator/Alternator voltage set point (v) re...

Re: Ford Smart Charging System

Today I consider the Ford Fiesta a fix. The details; Alternator was tested on the car and found to be not charging, then the alternator was removed and taken to the auto electricians for test and repair. The auto electricians advised at point of collection that the regulator had failed. Today I put ...

Re: Ford Smart Charging System

Spoke to the auto electrician this morning and he advised that he had not looked at the alternator at that time, he advised he would ring me when he had. It'll more than likely be tomorrow now as he has not rang me today. Tomorrow is another day, I'm waiting eagerly to see what the auto electrician ...
