Re: Help for the newbie

I'm abit confused why I need to set to DC as these are Inductive crank sensor 2 wires in a shielded sheath, so I thought these produced AC output. It is a common misconception that AC signals need AC coupling. This comes from a misunderstanding of what AC/DC coupling does. Many of the automotive me...

Re: Advice needed on charging current waveform

We see it with some inductive crank sensors which can cause problems when looking at additional signals. This occurs when improperly hooked up to a floating ground VR sensor. Easy to create a no start condition with your scope. No active differential probe needed. Just hook up properly. What you do...

Re: 2 x 4 Software.

If that was technically possible, it would be ideal for everyone. Everyone that has a four channel would likely buy another as two could be used separately on different vehicles or combined in the less common circumstance when you really need 8 channels. So much more versatile. Pico would sell a LOT...

Re: Diagnosising old school ignition coil

The concepts of coil diagnosis are covered extensively in Primary Failure Analysis on Nerd III. https://www.autonerdz.com/n1.htm Followed with a quiz on the concepts: https://www.autonerdz.com/downloads/apiquiz.pdf In a nutshell, you validate the primary drive with primary current making sure the cu...

Re: 8-Channel Oscilloscope for Automotive?

Nice write up, Steve.

One correction needed:
Sample Rate 10MS/s with all channels active (Which remains impressive)
It's 40MS/s with all eight active is it not?

Re: Raster Parade, etc,..

No problem, Ben. As the original Pico automotive vendor, we have some history. Here is some on the Mixmaster. The Mixmaster was inspired by one of our members who came up with a technique for looking at the entire secondary ignition for all cylinders on a waste spark system using tandem Ferret 953 u...

Re: Raster Parade, etc,..

As PicoKev has mentioned we do have the MixMaster which will allow you to connect to a V12 using just two channels of your scope. Whilst not in Raster it will give you the ignition waveforms in Parade using a trigger from cylinder 1 and the king lead to acquire all ignition patterns. Ben, No Mixmas...

Windows 7 or higher (not RT or S), 2GHz duo core equivalent or better processor, min 4 gigs of RAM (preferably eight), USB 3.0 but 2.0 is OK.
