Inspection found that a valve was lightly touching a piston. Luckily the engine did not blow up! Engine replaced by VW under warranty.

Car has done 50k miles. Engine has developed a harsh/throaty sound with a ticking noise and slight vibration. Performance and economy seem to be unaffected. Inlet and exhaust systems ok. Could it be timing or an injector fault?
