Re: Unable to connect with car

Hi Steve, I have emailed you all the files you've asked for with notes of my observations. Let me know if you'd like similar for the Fords as well. On a side-note, I ran the NVH software (and J2534 toolbox) from a different laptop to keep things "simple". The laptop I normally run NVH and PicoAuto o...

Re: Unable to connect with car

Hello, I seem to be having similar issues as VAStech. I purchased the MongoosePro/ISOCAN2 interface (as it seems highly recommended on these forums) solely for the purpose of using with NVH, but it only works with some cars for me. Most cars, it does not work for. So far, I've found it to work with ...

Re: Exhaust vibration??

Points to PicoKev for the suggestion to move the microphone to where I had my cell phone. I tried this suggestion today; while there wasn't a good place to "attach" the microphone, I did wrap it with one of the rubber twist-ties, so that it wouldn't cause too much noise itself from bouncing on the d...

Re: Exhaust vibration??

Steve, David, thanks for your continued feedback. Steve, you've opened a couple doors for me. First, I did not know that the max frequency range of interest could be expanded until I tried to recreate what you did with the MP3. Now that I know how to expand the frequency range in advanced options, I...

Re: Exhaust vibration??

Well, I had a few minutes tonight so decided to try and rule out both the alternator and the power steering pump by sticking an accelerometer directly to each and taking a quick ride. I fully expected to see large E2 spikes because we're on the same side of the engine mounts as the engine is, if tha...

Re: Exhaust vibration??

The noise sounds like it's coming from the front of the engine. It's just very loud; which is why it puzzles me that the NVH wouldn't pick it up. I may try setting up the NVH microphone in the same place.

That broken weld sounds like it was quite a pain!

Thanks,
Curt

Re: Exhaust vibration??

I used my cell phone to record the noise. I just started the recording on my phone, and set it up on the dash by the windshield. It's as plain as day. However, I could not get it to play back using Windows media player. I had to use VLC media player, and I had to specify the output device. Weird. I ...

Re: Exhaust vibration??

Thanks David, it definitely sounds like something "tinny" rattling. In one of the previous captures, I punched in the crank pulley-to-accessory pulley ratios, and it didn't match up with either the alternator, or the AC. It does make the rattle noise with the AC off as well. Maybe one day I'll remov...

Re: Exhaust vibration??

Steve, quick question - for my next run (on the highway), should I use the accelerometer in the cabin, or in the engine bay? Technician, thanks for the feedback. I just happen to be under the car this weekend, replacing struts. I checked brake shields, and they're about 1/4" away, and rigid enough t...
