Hi Ed, Your resistance measurements seem ok to me so I don't think you have a problem with the pickup. Do you know how much memory your scope has? From the traces you have posted, it does not look like its collecting enough samples to give you the clarity and detail that a PicoScope would give you. ...

Hi Jez, I'm sorry that you are having problems capturing secondary ignition waveforms. I should be able to help you better over the phone while you are at the PC. If you want to leave me a number I can call you back, alternatively call the office and ask for me when it suits you. Speak to you soon, ...

Hi John, It depends if its a switch or a sensor. Unfortunately, I'm unable to give you vehicle specific data. The switch normally has 3 wires. One wire with a supply and the other two wires are return signals to the ECU to indicate when the throttle is at IDLE or WOT. Basically the switch only tells...

Hi, Thank you for your enquiry. For automotive diagnostics we recommend our automotive scopes, the 3223 or the 3423. If its just the speed sensor you want to measure then an ADC100 will be more than capable of capturing this. The software will not automatically pass or fail a measured waveform, that...

Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry. PicoScope cannot automatically adjust the timebase as the RPM changes, you have to adjust it manually.

Hi,

The crank angle sensor tells the ECU the position of the crankshaft so it can work out when to fire the plugs and injectors. Its usually either an inductive or hall effect sensor located on the flywheel or on a pulley at the other end of the crankshaft.

Hi ,

Is that EMG as in Electromyography? Not really familiar with these signals but the ADC-100 is certainly capable of sampling signals in the 0-2000Hz range. The spectrum analyzer function in PicoScope will allow you to look at the frequency components of the signal.

Best regards,

Yes in theory this is possible, this is how the PCM or ECU's OBD system detects misfire. The trick is how to process/analyse the signal captured by the scope. Here is an interesting article you might find useful, http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3828/is_200005/ai_n8891565 Another method u...

Hi Jez, Yes longer arms would be one way! Failing that you can use the 'save on trigger' (SOT) function. Every time the scope triggers the captured waveform will be saved to a file on the harddisk. To enable this function you need to go to Settings|Trigger and tick on the 'Save on trigger' box. When...
