What I'm getting at is beta the better version to have and if so why do you have another version. I don't understand why you have two automotive versions and which one I should be using and why

I recommend you have them both. Having both allows you to get familiar with a new beta version while still having the familiar release version to fall back on when you are in the heat of battle. Release and beta versions live separately on the same PC and do not share configurations.
This particular beta 6.12.4.2427 has edge count measurements that you may want to explore, among other things. You will also need it to open up any shared files that others have made using it. Previous versions cannot open them.
Now... If you are using an older XP machine, then the current release is the last one you will be able to use.
