Can the FLS connect directly to the inlet manifold (brake servo connection or similar)whilst the engine is running?

Yes. This is how you would set up to see the intake pulses. Now, if you were actually making the connection while the engine was running, you would have to be quick so as not to cause a stall from an open vac leak.
Best to hook up before starting the engine

Thank you for that reply. Has anyone any 212/3 waveforms to show whilst the FL Sensor is connected directly to the inlet manifold with the engine idling?

Here is one off of a 1997 Dodge Intrepid 3.5 V6 taken at the brake booster nipple. Channel B is an inductive pickup on the #1 plug wire for sync.
Each engine has a different signature.
