VW Phaeton 2005 - 3.0Tdi BMK Engine

Post by STC »

I have problems with he Infotainment CAN on this vehicle. The scoped signals on both the Hi & Lo exactly the same and are rubbish, Using an Ohm meter (Both Batteries in the Boot disconnected) I can see that Hi & Low are shorted together. That explains the same bad signal on both. No short to Positive or Earth.

Looking at the set up and accessibility I think it would be easier to eliminate the components on the network rather than chase wiring.

So far I have unplugged
J285 & J533 - Integrated Instrument Cluster & Diagnostic Gateway
J162 - Aux Heater Control Unit in Front Wheel arch - Not Fitted
Y8 - Analogue Clock
R78 - TV Tuner not fitted
J415 - Nav System for Tuner for TV - Screen in Centre Console - Un Plugged
J526 - Telephone - Not fitted
J401 - Navigation DVD in Glove Box
J523 - Front Display
R12 & J525 - Amplifier & Digital Sound Package Control Unit.

All the above has been achieved looking at ELSA.

Looking at SSP 274 - Pages 34 & 35 Phaeton Infotainment, is it telling me that the Multifunction Steering Wheel is on that Network. I cannot find or confirm it on the wiring diagrams. I can see Convenience & Powertrain networks wired into it.

I KNOW that there is something else on the network because with everything unplugged there is still activity on the two wires. It is the same with all of the above plugged in or unplugged.

As always I am missing something here. Any pointers gratefully received, as always.

Regards STC

Hi STC.

Can you pm me a vin?
Ill have a nose through ELSA on Monday

Have you plugged out the CD changer R41 next to the navigation dvd J401?

Might br worth taking a look at the Measuring value blocks for can network communication through another control unit to see if you can spot anything else that is fitted although Im unsure if or how well this network functions when shorted together

Johnny.

Sorry, that got missed in my original post.

R41 has been unplugged in the past so that a Denson Bluetooth Unit could be fitted in its place. And Yes, I have unplugged the aftermarket "Denson" Unit

And also disconnected every thing on the dropdown below the parcel shelf in the boot.

I will pm the VIN to you later today.

I guess so. It did look a bit rotten. I unplugged it and the radio etc. came back to life.
