Hi PicoScope users!!!

Post by picoblack »

My name is Eric Black, and I live in the United States (OHIO). I don't have a scope yet, but really feel motivated to get one. I'm sure most of you have seen some of Paul Danner's many videos posted on youtube.com (ScannerDanner is his handle). He has got me so excited to try and see if I can do those same tests with success. It would be so nice to view signals on a screen and be able to determine circuit faults, component faults, and more with a scope. The DMM (digital multi-meter ) and Power Probe just doesn't cut it at times . This would be new to me so I'm a little hesitant in spending money for fear of not using it. What to do? Maybe those of you who felt like me and have acutally bought one can help me out here. Anyways, hello all.

Hi Erik,

Welcome to the forum! Those of us who work at Pico are probably a bit biased to answer your question so best if some users reply. If you have outgrown the meter and powerprobe though a scope is the next step in improving your diagnostic skills.

We are a fan of the ScannerDanner videos here - have you checked out the training section of the web site there are a few in there: https://www.picoauto.com/library/training

Regards
Alan

Welcome Eric,

We are a bit biased too but I can tell you that PicoScope does not cost money. It makes money. But you do have to use it.

Pico has a lot of support and resources available to you to get you started.

Since you are in the USA, you should also be aware of Autonerdz. We introduced PicoScope to the automotive industry on this continent and remain the only PicoScope automotive specialists. Our goal is to provide our users with everything they need to reach their desired level of expertise. All you need to do is commit to invest in yourself with study and practice.

We have a very large and active global community of users too. These pros are a great bunch and always willing to help you along as well. While you are visiting our site, be sure to get signed up on our forums too. The combination of Pico resources and Autonerdz resources has no equal. All our resources are included with any of our custom kits.

There is a free download with some cool stuff on it here:

Hi im not biased
I started with a bench scope and then the snap on version

and now the 4 channel pico and have to say its the most versatile I should have gone straight to the pico now having used one nothing compares to the flexibility its the software that really makes this the best in my opion

you wont regret buying one go for a 4 channel if poss

Thanks andrew

Hi Eric

I am not biased in anyway. Makes no difference to me which scope you buy, if any.

Of course if you do want to be a "Proper Diagnostician" the man that gets it right first time every time then you will need a good scope. To my knowledge the Pico + Autonerdz combination will be hard to come close to.

If you have watched Paul Danner's Videos then I suspect you have already seen the benefits of having a Pico.
This would be new to me so I'm a little hesitant in spending money for fear of not using it. What to do? Maybe those of you who felt like me and have actually bought one can help me out here
That would me some time ago. Today I scope everything !!! I use a Fluke 123 Scope as my handheld Voltmeter & Scope and if I need more detail & accuracy out comes the Pico. (Being Mobile it is more convenient that way) If I was Workshop based I would switch the Pico on first thing and leave it running all day.

If you think that you can buy a scope and hit the ground running with it then then you would be wrong.

You will have to invest hours and hours learning how to use it, practice, practice, practice and one day soon become a Master Scope Jockey. Practice on good and bad cars, read the technical articles, more videos. It doesn't take long but you will have to commit time to it. And believe me it will be worth the Effort.

Take a look at the Case Studies on this forum, there is some mind blowing stuff in there.

One last thing, get all the accessories to go with it. The accessories make fixing cars a fun thing, what the scope can do is limited only by your imagination and the accessories.

And as Andrew says, 4 channels. Even then you will find yourself wanting more.
