04 Santa Fe Ignition

Post by careys »

2 lt 04 Hyundi Santa Fe ignition

I don’t have circuit diagram & unfamiliar with system
It runs for 5 secs, I captured current waveform on 10 sec screen
Waveform varies from 7 amps down to 3 with narrowing pulses
I get this read on 2 suply wires to no1-2 coil unit,
Voltages on supply wires are 12 V & zero, zero, same running & stopped
I expect 2 ctrl wires & ground on each coil unit ?
no 3-4 coils reading slightly better,
Can both coils fail together ?
Kind Regards Carey

Edited:
Can you give some captures when fault occurs? Otherwise it's all guess work.

0 volts is not right.

Hi
I enclose capture of 0V bk wire on no 1&2 cyls, y-bk wire has similar waveform on same coil

Is this a wind up ?

The first thing i did was check sample rate in properties, then i closed Pico down without looking any further !

I did notice one thing though, I wasn't aware that Pico sold a single channel scope, every days a school day !!

You get out what you put in ..........

Hi

Sorry my mistake/inexperience I am new to this unsure of how it works
So here goes my second attempt
Engine not starting today, current flow missing on coil pack 1-2 which was capture I sent
Again sincere apology for messing up/wasting your time

New to what ? Scope ?

What's your skill level/equipment/understanding of ign systems ?

What info systems are at your disposal ?

How many channels has that scope got ??

Hi
I have been working on heavy equipment diesel & electrics for over 30 years,
You might feel like saying that I should stay there,
My hobby is electronics, I have used oscolloscopes in the last century
I would like to experiment on cars with my Picoscope, it’s a nice challenge
2009 A 4224 scope, wps 500, first look sensor & a few other bits best purchase of my life
I use it quiet a lot on, cold starting , charging , batt testing etc etc , an unending list,
Solonoide valves buried deep in transmissions can be verified instantly saving lots of hard work
I use an injector pulse sensor on old diesels, I can check timing, compression, valves, the list goes on
I recently identified no 3 piston problem on a old Volvo loader, no electrics on that machine,
with the use of my Picoscope, and not even lifting the bonnett, I was able to confirm this
My Pico is just amazing piece of equipment should have purchaced sooner, the sky is the limit
My SantaFe is hobby/helping a friend & showing him what can be done with a Picoscope
staritng to use pico help site uploading captures what & how to send etc just learning ?
feeling my way on The SantaFe, are the coils driven from the ecu, but looking at the voltage waveform it looks like a transistor driver, I don’t have a circuit diagram
so with my Picoscope and your advice, I feel that I should easily make that call and get it right first time is it high resistance prmary? , current ramp diminshing with no voltage change ?
The Picoscope is undoubtly the most versatile piece of test equipment I have used
I could fill several pages so I better finish here.

Kind Regards
Carey
